Hydrogen sulfide is present due to anaerobic activity, which favors sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) and results in the generation of a poisonous rotten egg gas called H2S. AMALGAM effectively locks up H2S to prevent release as a gas that produces odor and facilitates corrosion.
